Class Description
Yin yoga is a practice that if you continue to practice over time, you will begin to notice wonderful changes and benefits to the mind and body. Yin is a wonderful compliment practice to our more vigorous activities such as vinyasa, running, cycling or other athletic pursuits. Maintaining poses for several minutes can have an intense effect on the tight, sore and sometimes inflamed tissues that endurance athletes often experience. Poses, held between 3 and 5 minutes, are done mostly on the floor and target the deep connective tissue concentrated in the major joints of the body. Yin yoga helps rejuvenate connective tissues, improve circulation, and bring joints back to their natural range of motion. The longer duration within each pose provides the opportunity to slow down and bring awareness to the current capabilities of our bodies. Through mindfulness practices, we are able to focus inward more clearly and open ourselves to fully embody the present moment. It is common for those to get emotional during these classes since we do hold our emotional baggage in our connective tissue, and that is okay. I am here to support you in your journey through self-discovery. Please note: Yin is NOT restorative yoga. Due to the long, slow, deep holds of the yin poses, this practice can be intense. Discomfort is normal, pain is not. Please discuss any injuries you have with your instructor prior to class. What to wear: Wear whatever you're most comfortable in. Something loose fitting and/or stretchy. What to bring: 2 yoga blocks (can substitute 2 or 3 stiff pillows or towels) 2 large blankets (can substitute towels) 1 bolster (can substitute pillows from your couch or bed) Ambiance: A meditative Spotify music playlist will be provided, but you are welcome to practice without music if you choose, or play your own favorite playlist. I invite you to set the mood; dim the lights, use essential oils, candles, or other fun scents that make you feel good. Class Structure: There will be no warm up in this class. It is important that Yin poses are practices while the muscles are cold. We will move through 6-12 yin postures in this 60 minute class. Each posture will have various modifications to help you get into the pose safely. Each pose will be held between 2-5 minutes. We will end with a 5-8 minute savasana meditation. I will have a philosophical theme, concept, or message to reflect upon during the long posture holds.
