Class Description

This class is gentle, slow, and peaceful that helps to balance the mind and body, relieve tension and anxiety, boost the immune system, and improve flexibility. You'll see more grounding postures to open and release the major muscle groups. These gentle movements and stretches allow the mind and body to recover from every day stress and strain or from those recovering from a highly active lifestyle. This class is a perfect supplement to more active classes like hot yoga or vinyasa yoga and helps promote recovery and healing by tapping into the parasympathetic nervous system so that we enter into rest and digest mode. As apposed to yin (which focuses on targeting the connective tissues on the body) this class is meant to help build flexibility in the major muscles groups of the body. What to bring: Props can enhance or deepen your experience to achieve a state of total relaxation and release. Here are some props you may enjoy including in your restorative yoga practice: --Yoga mat: Choose a soft yoga mat for your restorative practice. You may even like to drape a blanket over the entire mat for extra cushioning and warmth. --Blankets: Use any blanket that will provide weight, warmth, and cushion for your practice. You can also use towels or other soft objects. --Yoga blocks: Yoga blocks are often made from wood, cork, or recycled foam. They are fairly inexpensive and are a great way to provide you with support during your practice. You can also use a stack of books as blocks when practicing at home. --Bolsters: Bolsters are big pillows with some stiffness that allows for more support during restorative poses. You can also use pillows from your bed or couch. What to wear: Wear whatever you're most comfortable in. Something loose fitting and/or stretchy. Ambiance: A gentle Spotify music playlist will be provided, but you are welcome to practice without music if you choose, or play your own favorite playlist. I invite you to set the mood wherever you may be; dim the lights, use essential oils, grab a blanket or pillow for added comfort. Class Structure: Classes typically start lying down or seated. We will begin with a breathing exercise and/or meditation to help ground, calm, and become present for 5-10 minutes. Then we will move through reclined and/or standing stretches for 20-30 minutes, and then finish with reclined stretches for 5-10 minutes and a 5-8 minute savasana meditation.
